I read Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants shortly after it arrived in bookstores, sometime during my sophomore year of high school. Immediately I fell in love with the book’s four main characters—Carmen, Tibby, Bridget and Lena. I laughed and cried along with them through the first book, finishing it in just a few days … then reading it all over again. I anxiously awaited books two, three and four—The Second Summer of the Sisterhood, Girls In Pants and Forever In Blue—believing my time spent with my new friends was over when those magical pants were lost in Greece.
Ann Brashares, the books’ author, wasn’t done with her four heroines yet, though, releasing Sisterhood Everlasting last year and catching up with the girls 10 years later. The book has been an emotional roller coaster from the start, immediately transporting me back to a world of long-lost love, finding a place in the world, and a friendship that has the power to withstand the toughest of times. It’s amazing how this book has drawn me in—I’m tempted to devour it in days, but also want to savor the final chapter. Either way, I am happy to have one last chance to say goodbye.
